About John & Kathy
Desiring to Help Others Connect With God
After 40 years of grassroots ministry from the coalfields of Appalachia through two university towns to diverse neighborhoods in London and the American South, John and Kathy have reflected on what it takes to sustain a vibrant, deepening relationship with God.
John and Kathy know what it is like to be enslaved by legalism and moralism that squeezes the life out of Christian experience. Their own awakening to the depth of God’s grace in the gospel of Jesus Christ occurred when life did not work the way it was supposed to work for ‘good Christian people’. They found to their amazement that God comes close to those who do not have the answers, who cannot get their act together, and to those who are broken and needy in their suffering.
Experiencing God’s love, finding their identity in Jesus Christ, and drawing on the Holy Spirit’s power and wisdom have energized their lives - in spite of brokenness and limitations. They have found that an integration of Trinitarian spirituality with faith-oriented practices can generate a life of love for God and neighbor.
John is a pastor and Kathy a deacon in the Anglican Church in North America, but both have enjoyed working across numerous denominational lines. Aside from their educational and theological degrees, John has completed two years of training and oversight in the practice of Spiritual Direction from the Selah Certificate Program in Spiritual Direction. Kathy has extensive training and ministry experience in healing prayer. They continue to receive healing prayer and Spiritual Direction themselves and meet with peers for ongoing growth and accountability.
