Spiritual Direction
what is spiritual direction?
Spiritual Direction is an ancient practice that is being renewed for use among Christians who are Christ-centered and committed to Scripture, but desire more experience of God.
Simply put, Spiritual Direction is receiving assistance in becoming more attentive to God’s presence and activity in your life. The practice involves a spiritual companion - often called a Spiritual Director - who provides support in a prayerful discernment of God’s presence and activity.
“The assumption of spirituality is that always God is doing something before I know it. So the task is not
to get God to do something I think needs to be done, but to become aware of what God is doing so I can
respond to it and participate and take delight in it.” Eugene Peterson
We can trust the Holy Spirit to move toward us and open our eyes and ears to God’s loving presence. Thus, the practice creates the opportunity for exploring and deepening your relationship with God.

What does Spiritual Direction Involve?
You may come to Spiritual Direction with specific questions about your relationship with God, or you many bring current life issues as the starting point for a Spiritual Direction session. Questions, doubts, struggles and longings are all relevant.
Spiritual Direction sessions generally last an hour once a month and include quiet listening to God, conversation and prayer. The first session will include getting to know each other and a discussion of Spiritual Direction. After this session you may decide that counseling, discipleship, or another Spiritual Director is a better fit for you.
